Sandalwood hero Dhanveerrah, who is a big wildlife enthusiast, has adopted a black panther (Minchu) and leopard (Kruti) from Shivamogga lion safari, for a period of 1 year. Dhanveerrah had adopted a black panther from Mysuru Zoo last September for a period of 1 year.

Speaking to TOK, Dhanveer says, " Karnataka Zoos are facing a financial crunch for the second consecutive year due to pandemics, as zoos depend on revenue generated from zoo lover footfalls to feed the animals and birds and to maintain the zoo. Due to the long lockdown, all zoos are depending now on donors to tide over the crisis. This made me adopt minchu and kruthi. I chose shivamoga Zoo because it gets extremely little financial support from the Karnataka govt compared to other zoos in Karnataka. Creatures need to be fed; we can't permit them to starve in these difficult stretches. As I was unable to travel because of the lockdown, I did an online transaction to adoption. When everything gets back to normal, I will get a brief look at the animals I have adopted. "

About his passion, Dhanveer says, “I have consistently been interested in animals since my childhood. I miss going to Nagarahole and Bandipur for safaris, which I did a year ago.”

How can one adopt an animal in zoos?

  • To make the process easy, last July the Karnataka Zoo Authority launched a mobile application so that people sitting anyplace can adopt animals and contribute to the protection, rehabilitation, and rescue.
  • Individuals can contribute beginning from '50.
